Supplemental Notice: 2025 Overseas Duan Examination Class under The Chinese Wushu Duan System
Overseas Wushu Practitioners:
The 12th World Grand Wushu Festival Shanghai, concurrently hosting the 2025 Overseas Duan Examination Class under The Chinese Wushu Duan System, will be conducted from 17 to 21 September 2025 in Hongkou District, Shanghai. To ensure the smooth operation of assessment procedures and reception services, supplemental arrangements are hereby notified as follows:
I. Registration and Departure

II. Fees and Payments
(1) Registration Fee: U.S.$50 per person
(2) Training & Assessment Fee: U.S.$100 per person
(3) Technical Service Fee for Duan Promotion:
1st Duan: U.S.$60

(4) Payment Method:
Payment shall be made exclusively in U.S. cash during on-site registration. Upon successful payment, an official receipt issued by the Organizing Committee will be provided as valid proof.
(5) Insurance:
The Organizing Committee shall provide unified Personal Accident Insurance coverage for all participants during the official event period.

IV. Competition Credentials
Participants must present their original passport for verification during registration. Failure to provide valid identification will result in denial of participation.
V. Eligibility Criteria
A. Elementary & Intermediate Duan (1st-6th Duan)
① Practitioners who possess a Wushu Duan, have fulfilled the corresponding minimum holding period, and have passed the promotion examination may apply for promotion to the next higher dan.
(1) Holders of the 1st Duan for at least one year may advance to the 2nd Duan upon passing the assessment.
(2) Holders of the 2nd Duan for at least one year may advance to the 3rd Duan upon passing the assessment.
(3) Holders of the 3rd Duan for at least two years may advance to the 4th Duan upon passing the assessment.
(4) Holders of the 4th Duan for at least two years may advance to the 5th Duan upon passing the assessment.
(5) Holders of the 5th Duan for at least two years may advance to the 6th Duan upon passing the assessment.
② Participants who have not obtained any martial arts rank and achieve the required score in this International Martial Arts Tournament may apply for the corresponding dan examination held in conjunction with this event; upon passing the examination, they may be awarded the corresponding dan.
(1) Participants who achieve a score of 7.5 or above in either one barehanded routine or one weapons routine, and pass the examination, may be awarded the 2nd Dan.
(2) Participants who achieve scores of 7.5 or above in both one barehanded routine and one weapons routine, and pass the examination, may be awarded the 3rd Dan.
(3) Participants who achieve scores of 8.0 or above in both one barehanded routine and one weapons routine, and pass the examination, may be awarded the 4th Dan.
(4) Participants who achieve scores of 8.5 or above in both one barehanded routine and one weapons routine, and pass the examination, may be awarded the 5th Dan.
(5) Participants who achieve scores of 9.0 or above in both one barehanded routine and one weapons routine, and pass the examination, may be awarded the 6th Dan.
B. Advanced Duan (7th-8th Duan)
1. Eligibility for 7th Duan
Applicants may apply upon meeting all criteria:
l Hold 6th Duan for a full 5 years
l Attained ≥40 years of age
l Systematically master one martial art style (including Sanda) in both technical and theoretical systems
l Demonstrate documented wushu achievements
l Exhibit exemplary adherence to martial virtues (wude) and ethical conduct
l Provide evidence of contributions to global wushu promotion and heritage preservation
l Pass the advanced examination
2. Eligibility for 8th Duan
Applicants may apply upon meeting all criteria:
l Hold 7th Duan for a full 5 years
l Attained ≥50 years of age
l Proficient command of ≥2 martial art styles (including Sanda) in technical/theoretical systems
l Outstanding professional accomplishments and influence
l Significant contributions to international wushu dissemination and heritage development
l Pass the master-level examination
VI. Examination Content
(一)Elementary Dan (1st-3rd Dan)
The assessment consists of two parts:
Wushu Etiquette
Content:
Performing the Bao Quan Li (抱拳礼, traditional martial salute)
Understanding of Wude (武德, martial virtues)
Technical Examination
Candidates may demonstrate one of the following:
Solo routines from the Chinese Wushu Duan Wei System Textbook Series (Elementary Level)
Nationally-promoted standardized routines
Beginner competition routines
Approved original routines meeting the following criteria:
Certified by the Chinese Wushu Association (CWA)
Movement quantity and technical difficulty equivalent to 1st-3rd Duan standards
(二)Intermediate Dan (4th-6th Dan)
The assessment consists of two parts:
Fundamental Theory of Wushu
Evaluated through a written examination
Technical Examination
Candidates may demonstrate:
Solo routines from the Chinese Martial Arts Duan Wei System Textbook Series
Nationally-promoted standardized routines
Intermediate/Advanced competition routines
Approved original routines meeting the following criteria:
Certified by CWA
Technical difficulty equivalent to 4th-6th Duan standards
Movement quantity matching textbook requirements
(三)Advanced Dan (7th-8th Dan)
The evaluation consists of technical examination, theoretical examination, and oral defense, with additional consideration given to:
Martial virtues (wude) cultivation
Technical proficiency
Personal achievements
Professional competence
Social contributions
Format: Closed-book written test
Content:
Fundamental theories of Chinese Wushu
Knowledge of the Chinese Wushu Duan Wei System
Format: On-site defense with randomly selected questions
For Taolu (Forms):
Perform one barehanded routine and one weapon routine
Requirements:
Minimum complexity: 6th Duan standard
Must demonstrate specified movement quantity and difficulty
For Sanda (Sparring):
Demonstrate:
Fundamental techniques (quan/tui/shuaì)
Combination techniques
VII. Application Requirements
All candidates applying for Chinese Wushu Dan Examination or Dan Promotion Shall:
Complete the Official Application Form (Annex 2)
Submit with the form:
Two (2) 2-inch recent photographs
Copies of valid ID (National ID card or passport)
Supporting documents for the applied Dan level
Send full application package before 25 August 2025 (23:59 UTC+8) to the designated email: shwsy2021@163.com
Late submissions will be rejected without exception.
VIII. Additional Matters
(1) Reporting Requirements
All Duan examination candidates must report according to the schedule designated by the Organizing Committee.
(2) On-Site Documentation
Participants must sign the Letter of Commitment in person during registration.
(3) Dress Code
Theory Class & Exam: Official Chinese Wushu Duan Wei System uniform or Wushu Taolu judge attire
Technical Training: Sports attire with Wushu shoes
Technical Exam: Wushu competition uniform with Wushu shoes
(4) Duan Adjustment Policy
If a candidate fails to meet the applied Duan standard, they may be awarded a lower Duan level based on actual performance.
(5) Fee Adjustment
Refund: If awarded a lower Duan, the fee difference will be refunded.
Additional Payment: If upgrading to a higher Duan, the balance must be paid.
(6) Non-Refundable Policy
All fees are non-refundable once the application is submitted.
(7) Interpretation Authority
The Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) holds exclusive rights to interpret the Duan Wei System regulations.
